NEW YORK, NEW YORK, SOME LIKE IT HOT, LEOPOLDSTADT Lead 2023 Outer Critics Circle Award Nominations
It’s officially awards season, folks. The Outer Critics Circle have revealed their favorites of the 2021-2022 season. Leading the pack are Broadway musicals New York, New York and Some Like It Hot with twelve and ten nominations, respectively. Off-Broadway's Downstate and Broadway's Leopoldstadt lead the plays with six nods each.
The winners will be announced May 16, with an in-person ceremony honoring the recipients May 25 at the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.
Among the night’s biggest honors: for Outstanding New Broadway Musical, the nominees are & Juliet, A Beautiful Noise, the Neil Diamond Musical, New York, New York, Shucked, and Some Like It Hot. Nominated for Outstanding New Broadway Play are Good Night, Oscar by Doug Wright, Leopoldstadt by Tom Stoppard, Life of Pi by Lolita Chakrabarti, Peter Pan Goes Wrong by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, and Summer, 1976 by David Auburn.
Elsewhere, the nominees for Outstanding Score are Between the Lines (Kate Anderson and Elyssa Samsel), Shucked (Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally), New York, New York (John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Lin-Manuel Miranda), The Bedwetter (Adam Schlesinger and Sarah Silverman), and Some Like It Hot (Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman).
