For many actors, after a long 8-show week, their one day off is time to rest and recharge. We recently caught up with Samantha Williams, who plays Emmie Thibodeaux in Roundabout’s revival of Caroline, or Change on Broadway, and spent her day off running around the city and getting to know her better.

Hometown? Houston, TX  & Lufkin, TX

What got you into acting? Honestly? The Cheetah Girls. I was obsessed with them as a kid and that’s sort of when I got into theatre/singing!

First role? My first ever big role was Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. I was cast in a local community college’s production. It was a huge deal for the town because I was black and they weren’t used to seeing casting like that. It was incredible.

If you could describe your experience in Caroline, or Change in just one word, what would it be? Life-changing

Favorite song in the show right now? Hmm at this moment, I’d say The Moon Trio. Watching three stunning black women harmonize with each other on a broadway stage is absolutely magical.

Who are you jamming to on Spotify right now? Yebba’s new album, Dawn

What are you binging on TV right now? Just finished watching “You” Season 3. It was okay.

One instagram account (besides your own, duh) that we need to be following? @subwayhands

Favorite coffee joint in Midtown? I don't drink coffee. But I make a mean iced chai oat milk latte at my house!

Pickles on your burgers? Yes.

Pineapple on your pizza? Hmm I’ve had it before.. It's not bad. But I prefer a simple slice of pepperoni.

What flavor of cream cheese on your bagel? Plain

One show you are dying to see on Broadway right now? Thoughts of A Colored Man. (And honestly Caroline…I miss watching it in the rehearsal room)

Favorite musical? Dogfight & Rent

Dream Role? EMMIE. (Also Mimi in Rent and Rose in Dogfight)

When you think about opening night this week, what emotions come to mind? I am so incredibly grateful and just honored to be telling this story. I can’t believe that at 23 years old I’m getting to live my absolute dream. 10 year old me would think I am super cool. I keep trying to remind myself of that inner child. This is for her.

You can catch Samantha in Caroline, or Change which is now in performance at Studio 54 on Broadway. For tickets and more information, visit here. For more photos, visit Theatrely on Instagram. All photos by Rebecca J Michelson/Theatrely.
