For many actors, after a long 8-show week, their one day off is time to rest and recharge. This week, we caught up with Nick Blaemire from Space Dogs to spend an afternoon with him. Get to know a bit more about Nick in his #DayOffDiary:

Hometown? Washington, DC. Okay, Bethesda, MD.

Where might we find you on your day off? In bed, either watching a movie or writing something.

What was your first ever role? The Narrator of "The Homework Machine" when I was 3. A tour de force performance.

If you weren’t an actor, what would you be doing? Writing. The late great Joan Didion said, "I didn't want to be a writer, I wanted to be an actor. I didn't realize then that it's the same impulse. The only difference being that a writer can do it alone.

If you could describe your experience with Space Dogs so far in just one word, what would it be? Dream.

Who are you jamming to on Spotify right now? I'm a huge fan of Girlhouse. I met Lauren Luiz through Van Hughes, they did the Spring Awakening revival together, and she was like "Oh yeah, I actually just moved to Nashville and now I'm writing songs full time." I was like "Cool, aren't we all." Then I heard her songs and flipped. Start with "Concussion" -- simple chords, casually profound lyrics and some of the best production I've heard.

What are you binging on TV right now? My wife and I are currently either crying nightly to “Queer Eye” or cheering to a “30 for 30” ESPN Sports Documentary.

Read any good books lately? Just finished James Lapine's "Putting it Together." A riveting oral history about my favorite musical, that is pointillistic in its telling, just like the show.

One Instagram account (besides your own, duh), that we need to be following? @abstractsunday. Christoph Niemann is a visual genius. Check out his episode of ABSTRACT on Netflix. Amazing show about designers and artists of all kinds.

Favorite Dog Breed? Golden Retriever. Except for the shedding.

Favorite coffee joint in Midtown? What’s your order? I don't drink coffee before the show cuz I have bad acid reflux, so I never get coffee in midtown anymore. But in the morning, my neighborhood spot, Brooklyn Habit, does a great oat milk latte.

Pickles on your burgers? Absolutely.

Pineapple on your pizza? ABSOLUTELY.

What flavor of cream cheese on your bagel? Plain. Classic. Heaven. Bagel, cream cheese, lox, cucumber, tomato and onions is the perfect day off breakfast.

What is one show you are dying to see on Broadway right now? Company. If you haven't, go see American Utopia. It's great on HBOMax, but it's better live. I've gotta go back.

Favorite musical of all time? Sundaaaaaaaaay.

Dream Roles? George…

What’s one thing you hope the audience takes away when they come see Space Dogs? That dogs teach us how to be better people.

You can catch Nick in Space Dogs which is now in performance at the MCC Theater through March 13, 2022. For tickets and more information, visit here. For more photos, visit Theatrely on Instagram. All photos by Rebecca J Michelson/Theatrely.
