“You’re gonna love” to see this iconic musical revived. Dreamgirls is coming back to Broadway in Fall 2026 in the first-ever newly directed and choreographed Broadway revival. Camille A. Brown will direct and choreograph the new production, featuring book and lyrics by Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger. 

To cast the central “Dreams” trio, the production is embarking on a worldwide

talent search, seeking women of all shapes and sizes with immense talent. There will be auditions held in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Miami, London,  Toronto, Mexico City, Amsterdam, Rome and Paris.

Since its original Broadway premiere at the Imperial Theatre in 1981, Dreamgirls has been hailed as a seismic cultural event and one of the most electrifying musicals of all time. 

The original production, which was directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett and won six Tony Awards — including Best Book of a Musical, Best Actor and Actress in Featured Roles. It launched the career of Jennifer Holliday. Its impact has endured for over four decades, inspiring generations of artists and winning devoted fans around the world through countless productions and the Academy Award-winning film adaptation.

Dreamgirls tells the story of a female music group in 1960s Chicago. The three members — Effie White, Deena Jones, and Lorrell Robinson — reckon with the impact of their ambitious manager Curtis Taylor Jr. making changes to the group. It explores the costs of fame, ambition, and racial politics in the music industry.
