Exclusive First Listen: Nicholas Edwards Sings THIS IS THE TIME From THE BILLY JOEL PROJECT
“Sing us a song!” Yellow Sound Label has announced the release of The Billy Joel Project, the debut album from The Broadway Ensemble. The full album will be released on Aug. 1, with physical CDs available on Sept. 26. Pre-orders are available here.
The Broadway Ensemble features an 11-member cast with a combined 48 Broadway credits. This new project features an intimate look at the iconic piano man’s songbook. The album will feature new interpretations that honor the original classics like “New York State of Mind,” “Only the Good Die Young,” as well as deeper cuts like “Where’s the Orchestra?” and Joel’s latest single “Turn The Lights Back On.”
Theatrely has an exclusive first listen to Nicholas Edwards singing This is the Time from Joel’s 1986 album The Bridge.
In addition to Edwards, the album features Farah Alvin, John Treacy Egan, Annie Golden, Lina Koutrakos, Aaron Ramey, Nicholas Rodriguez, Courter Simmons, Rachel Ulanet, Donna Vivino, and Michael Winther. Music direction is by Jeremy Robin Lyons. The album is produced by Phil Geoffrey Bond, who also produced Sondheim Unplugged.
“Billy Joel is more than a musical genius —he’s a master storyteller,” Bond said in a statement. “His ability to weave powerful, profound, and deeply human narratives makes his music a perfect match for The Broadway Ensemble.”
