How could tonight get any “Better?!” Kimberly Akimbo has won the 2023 Tony Award for Best Musical! The new musical is truly a transcendent piece of theatre, bringing the audience to the highest highs of joy, friendship, and love, to the lowest lows of sadness, grief, and getting your arm stuck in a mailbox. The stupendous musical beat out fellow nominees & Juliet, New York, New York, Shucked, and Some Like It Hot.

Kimberly is about to turn 16 and recently moved with her family to a new town in suburban New Jersey. In this hilarious yet heartbreaking show, Kim is forced to navigate family dysfunction, a rare genetic condition, her first crush…and possible felony charges. Ever the optimist, she is determined to find happiness against all odds and embark on a great adventure.

Kimberly Akimbo was nominated for a total of eight Tony Awards, including David Lindsay-Abaire for Best Book, Jeanine Tesori & David Lindsay-Abaire for Best Original Score, Jessica Stone for Best Direction, Victoria Clark for Best Leading Actress, Justin Cooley for Best Featured Actor, Bonnie Milligan for Best Featured Actress, and John Clancy for Best Orchestrations.

Kimberly Akimbo is currently running at the Booth Theatre, and stars Victoria Clark as Kimberly Levaco, Justin Cooley as Seth Weetis, Steven Boyer as Buddy Levaco, Alli Mauzey as Pattie Levaco, and Bonnie Milligan as Aunt Debra.
