Rick Plaugher, Broadway's leading professional children's acting coach and veteran educator, opens Take Choice Acting, a new conservatory-level training studio for young talent that offers a variety of classes such as small group training sessions, one-on-one coaching, and college audition preparation sessions. The classes are structured around a “proprietary curriculum that integrates breath work, movement, Linklater voice and speech training, Stanislavsky objective work, and more.”

Plaugher, the program's founder, is a seasoned actor and educator with a BFA in acting from Boston University (Go Terriers!) and an MA in Educational Theatre from the City College of New York. Rick taught performance for many years in NYC public schools, including LaGuardia High School for the Arts and the Professional Performing Arts School. In addition, he worked as a teaching artist for The Shakespeare Society and the Lincoln Center Institute. Rick worked on Broadway for 12 years as the head child guardian for Disney's The Lion King, where he oversaw and rehearsed over 60 young children in the cast. Rick has also performed with the Blue Man Group and at prestigious theatre venues such as the Huntington Theatre, Boston Center for the Arts, The Groundlings Theatre, and more.

Take Choice Acting is currently seeking applications from actors for its debut workshop series, which will begin in October at New York's Open Jar Studios. These workshops provide a limited number of students, ages 9 to 17, with the opportunity to hone their craft and make brave, bold choices in a respectful, creative, and encouraging space. Weekly classes are held on Saturdays starting October 7 and ending November 4. Students can select between two time slots: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm or 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Space is extremely limited.

Plaugher emphasizes that his “guiding principle has always been about encouraging students to ‘make a choice.’ It takes courage to make a choice, and it takes craft to consistently make the best choice. The purpose of Take Choice Acting is to give students the courage and craft to take their talent to the next level.”
