Taylor Trensch Will Lead BAT BOY At New York City Center
Taylor Trensch is booked and busy! After his Tony nominated run in Lincoln Center’s Floyd Collins, Trensch will play the titular role in New York City Center’s annual gala presentation: Bat Boy. The musical will run from Oct. 29 to Nov. 9.
Bat Boy tells the story of a man discovered in a cave and adopted by a West Virginia family. Edgar, also known as Bat Boy, wants to be accepted by their community, and tries his hardest to appeal to their “Christian Charity.” But can he fight his insatiable bloodlust? Or will the bloodlust of the town searching for a scapegoat be his undoing?
Inspired by a popular tabloid article in the 1990s, Bat Boy gained cult status following its 2001 Off-Broadway premier. It features a pop-rick score by Laurence O’Keefe with orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire and a book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming.
The musical will be directed by Alex Timbers, with music direction by Andrew Resnick and choreography by Connor Gallagher. Prior to Floyd Collins, Trensch has been seen in Broadway’s Camelot, To Kill a Mockingbird, Dear Evan Hansen, and more. Theatrely sat down with him to discuss how his varied wigs have influenced his performances throughout his career.
Bat Boy kicks off City Center’s 2025-26 season, which will also include Billy Porter starring in La Cage Aux Folles, as well as High Spirits directed by Jessica Stone and The Wild Party directed by Lili-Anne Brown.
Bat Boy runs from Oct. 29 to Nov. 9 at New York City Center. Tickets start at $45 and are available now. For tickets and more information, visit here.
