Listen up! Audible’s Minetta Lane Theatre is mounting its next musical, Mexodus. Previews begin Sept. 9. and opening night is set for Sept. 18. The show will be recorded and released as an Audible Original at a later date.

Tickets to the first preview are available for $35 each, along with over one-third of all tickets for performances Sept. 10 to 13.

Mexodus was originally produced by Baltimore Center Stage, Mosaic Theater Company of DC, and Berkeley Repertory Theatre. It tells the story of the Underground Railroad that ran South, revealing the untold journey of thousands who escaped slavery by crossing the Rio Grande into Mexico. Written and performed by Brian Quijada and Nygel D. Robinson, Mexodus highlights a freedom seeker and an unlikely ally as they forge a remarkable bond that transcends borders. The production will be directed by David Mendizábal.

“Music is the vessel that allows us to connect this vital story to our world today, and we’re thrilled to join forces with the incredible Audible Theater and P3 Productions teams to present this New York City premiere,” Quijada and Robinson said in a statement. “In reuniting with our visionary director David Mendizábal, we can’t wait to continue sharing the power and resilience at the heart of this work.”

The show will feature Scenic Design by Riw Rakkulchon, Costume Design by David Mendizábal, Lighting Design by Mextly Couzin, Sound Design by Mikhail Fiksel, Projections Design by Johnny Moreno, and Choreography by Tony Thomas.

Quijada has previously worked on shows such as Kid Prince and Pablo at The Kennedy Center and Where Did We Sit on the Bus? at Victory Gardens, City Theatre Pittsburgh, and more. As an actor, he’s been seen in MCC’s Wolf Play, The Public’s Oedipus El Ray, Roundabout’s Bobbie Clearly, and more. He is a three-time Drama Desk nominee and has won a Lucille Lortel Award. Robinson has also performed in Berkeley Rep, Baltimore Center Stage, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Mosaic Theatre, and more. He has written a production of Santa Claus is Coming to Town, which will play at Baltimore Center Stage, and R&J: Fire on the Bayou with Kevin Ramsey which was workshopped at Goodspeed Opera House and The Hartt School.
