Broadway’s Fallen Angels, Starring Rose Byrne and Kelli O’Hara, Coming to Cinemas

On the heels of the record-setting box office success of the Hadestown live capture, it was just announced that a filmed version of the 2026 Broadway revival of Fallen Angels will be coming to cinemas this fall. I’ll drink to that! Wrong show, but it’s also the right show.

If you happened to miss the Noël Coward farce during its run on Broadway this past spring (deeply unfortunate, if so), the comedy follows two old friends and uppity housewives whose husbands are away for the day. In deciding to share a few drinks to pass the time, they also discover they previously shared something else: the same man.
Hijinks ensue! The production starred Academy Award nominee Rose Byrne and Tony Award winner Kelli O’Hara in what will be remembered as two of the most legendary comedic performances in some time. O’Hara making her way down a set of stairs and Byrne reacting to a ringing telephone should both be studied by aspiring comedians for decades to come. (Luckily they’ll have this live capture to do so!) It’s no surprise both actresses were nominated for Tony Awards.
The production, directed by Scott Ellis, also featured Tracee Chimo in a scene-stealing, side-splitting supporting role (her specialty), as well as Christopher Fitzgerald, Aasif Mandvi, and Mark Consuelos in his Broadway debut.
What makes theater so special is that it is ephemeral and when it’s over, it is over. However, every so often, we sure are lucky to preserve a spark of that lightning in a bottle.
In a statement, Byrne said: “It was so special to be part of Scott Ellis’s magical revival of Fallen Angels and to have it now be seen by audiences everywhere with Trafalgar’s theatrical release is wonderful. The formidable comedy of Noël Coward is the perfect entertaining escape.”
