This news is our Jam! After a six year hiatus, Tony nominee Daniel J. Watts is returning to Joe’s Pub with the 11th instalment of his spoken word/storytelling series Daniel J. Watts’ The Jam: SHED on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. The evening is presented in partnership with YoungArts.

Watts aims to encourage audiences to investigate the cracks in their skin. He cross-examines the insurmountable: death. The title is an homage to his great grandmother who would make jam from scratch and share it with family and friends. Watts’ The Jam is his way of continuing that legacy, sharing his blend of standup comedy, spoken word (often set to music and dance), and compelling storytelling with his community.

The Jam: SHED features musical styles ranging from jazz, hip hop, spirituals, gospel, theatre and Brazilian styles. The Band includes Mark G. Meadows serving as Music Director on keys, Nick Biello on sax/keys, Norman Edwards on drums, and Yuka Tadano on bass. Special guests include Crystal Monet Hall, Anastacia McClesky, Sequoiia, and Carla Stewart.

Watts’ previous iteration of The Jam — The Jam: Only Child — was a tremendous success at The Public Theater’s 2020 Under The Radar Festival.

The Jam: SHED plays one night only on Feb. 16 at Joe’s Pub on Lafayette Street at the Public Theatre. For tickets and more information, visit here.
