Following Backlash, Geno Segers Will No Longer Join HADESTOWN On Broadway
Earlier this week, it was announced that Geno Segers was set to join the company of Hadestown as Hades on September 1 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. Following the news, many took to social media calling out the casting as it appears that Segers has personally posted anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric on his own social media, in now deleted videos.
Today, the producers of Hadestown released a simple statement: “The producers of Hadestown and Geno Segers have mutually agreed that Mr. Segers will no longer join the Broadway production. Additional casting will be announced shortly.”
The new company will feature television and film star Jasmin Savoy Brown as ‘Eurydice,’ two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz as ‘Hermes,’ Tony Award nominee Amber Iman as ‘Persephone,’ and pop-rock musician and songwriter Kayko as ‘Orpheus.
This is a developing story.
