Gloria Estefan Working On New Musical FIVE NOTES

One of our musical greats Gloria Estefan announced on her Instagram recently that she is writing the music and lyrics with her daughter Emily Estefan for a new musical called Five Notes. Karen Zacarías will pen the new production that is to be directed by Tony-nominated Michael Grief. Ken Cerniglia will serve as dramaturg and Alex Lacamoire will be the production’s music supervisor. 

Five Notes is based on the award winning documentary Landfill Harmonic which follows the Orquestra De Reciclados De Cateura - a group of youths in Paragray whose lives are transformed when they meet a visionary music teacher who helps them create musical instrumans from trash fround in a nearby landfill. 

“This is a story that celebrates the power of music, resilience and community. We are just at the beginning of this process but I’m so excited,” wrote Estefan via Instagram. 

Many Broadway fans will remember On Your Feet, the jukebox musical based on the lives of Gloria and Emilio Estefan. The musical ran 746 regular performances at the Marriott Marquis and starred Ana Villafañe as Gloria and Josh Segarra as Emilio. 

No details on casting, but more will be announced in the coming months.
