HEATHERS Is Headed Back To New York
September 1, 2024 - Dear Diary,
New York, it’s time to grab those croquet mallets and fish out your scunchies because our favorite clique from Westerburg High is finally headed back to New York City. This morning, Heathers the Musical’s official website and social media teased that the cult classic will be making its way back Stateside in 2025.
Based off Daniel Waters’ hit film from 1988, Heathers follow Veronica Sawyer who finds herself swept into the Heathers, the popular and perhaps deadly girls group in school. Written by Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy, the show has become a favorite amongst younger audiences due in part to much of the music going viral on social media.
Following a Los Angeles tryout, the show premiered Off-Broadway in 2014 at New World Stages and ran for five months. Four years later, the show premiered in London at The Other Palace and has played on and off again on the West End, Off-West End, and numerous UK tours. From the marketing, it appears that it will be the London production directed by Andy Fickman that is headed to New York, although that remains unconfirmed for now.
The original Off-Broadway production featured Barrett Wilbert Weed, Ryan McCartan, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Elle McLemore, and Alice Lee.
Further casting along with an official announcement with a theatre and dates will be announced at a later time.
