While little is known about this musical to movie adaptation Variety is reporting that “a source close to the production” claims that it will be written and directed by Dreamgirls director Bill Condon.
According to a casting breakdown obtained by Variety The movie is currently on the look for a person that “presents as an openly queer and effeminate gay man, but may be on the non-binary/trans femme spectrum.” to play the role of Molina. Rehearsals for the project are set to begin in February of next year with filming beginning in April.
The musical is set in an Argentinian prison in 1981. Lopez would play the role of Aurora who Molina imagines in movies as a classic silver screen diva, including a role of the spider woman, who kills her prey with a kiss.
Kiss of the Spider-Woman originally premiered in the West End in 1992 and on Broadway in 1993 with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Terrence McNally.
