Live in living color! Julio Torres, an Emmy-nominated former Saturday Night Live writer, will make his Off-Broadway debut in Color Theories this September.

The new show blends standup, design, and dream logic into an exploration of color, emotion, and identity. It’s a cocktail of theatre, comedy, and art piece. Scenic designer Tommaso Ortino will bring the experience to life. Color Theories will run a limited engagement of 22 performances from September 3 to 21 at Performance Space New York, with opening night on Wednesday Sept. 10.

“I have some untested theories about colors that I’d like to explain via this multimedia, potentially synesthetic experience,” Torres said.

Color Theories is produced by Boundary Road Productions and co-presented by Performance Space New York.

Torres recently wrote, directed, and executive produced HBO’s six-episode series Fantasmas, which earned a 2025 Peabody Award in Entertainment. He also made his directorial feature film debut with A24’s Problemista, which premiered at SXSW in 2023 and received two nominations at the 2025 Film Independent Spirit Awards.

He was recognized by TIME Magazine in 2023 as a TIME100 Next list honoree under the “artists” category. The list recognizes 100 rising individuals across various industries who are making waves, shaping their fields, and defining the next generation of leadership.

Color Theories is in performance Sept. 3–21 at Performance Space New York in New York City. For tickets and more information, visit here.
