Social media is getting a whole new light on stage. Dear Evan Hansen Grammy and Emmy winner Kristolyn Lloyd will star in the Off-Broadway developmental production of Millennials Are Killing Musicals. The show, directed by Ciara Renée (Waitress, A Lonely Few), will play a limited engagement May 7-28 at Theatre 71 at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament.

Written by Drama League songwriting contest and NAMT Challenge winner Nico Juber, Millennials Are Killing Musicals is an entirely original show about reclaiming authentic happiness in a social media filtered world. Lloyd plays Brenda, a single mom who wants to do better like the perfect Jake’s Mom at her daughter’s school. Brenda is finally ready for love and creativity in her life when her younger sister Katrina, an influence, shows up at her house. And surprise, she’s eight months pregnant and totally unprepared for motherhood.

As previously announced, Tiffany Engen will play Jake’s Mom while Diana Huey is Katrina. Rounding out the cast are Max Crumm as Nate/Atlas, Jakeim Hart as Dylan, Sheri Sanders as Nana Marie, Jae W.B. as Luna, and Brinie Wallace as Pacifica, alongside understudies Jessie Alagna and Kathel Griffin.

Serving on the creative team are choreographer Sarah Parker, scenic designer Lindsay Fuori, costume designer Brynne Oster-Bainnson, lighting designer Jamie Roderick, sound designer Bill Toles, projection designer Taylor Edelle Stuart, production supervisor Rachel A. Zucker, and stage manager Kaleigh Bernier. Supporting them are assistant director Harmony Harris, associate choreographer Hope Easterbrook, assistant stage manager Kaelyn Kreicberg, and production assistant/wardrobe supervisor Chafik Waddy.

The music team features supervisor and arranger Ted Arthur, vocal arranger Devyn Rush, orchestrator Macy Schmidt, music director Sheela Ramesh, and associate music director Andrea Yohe.

Aaron Grant Theatrical is consulting general manager, while the gender consultant is Shira Helena Gitlin, and the EDI Consultant is Tiffany Vega-Gibson. New York Theatre Barn serves as associate producer.

Millennials Are Killing Musicals has been in development for four years. The show was an O’Neill NMTC Semifinalist in 2021 and 2022, seen in a recent NYC industry reading, and songs showcased through New York Theatre Barn’s New Works Series and sold-out concert presentations at Feinstein’s/Vitellos (mostlyNEWmusicals) and 54 Below.
