LA LA LAND To Be Adapted for Broadway
Here’s to the ones who dream: Variety is reporting that Oscar-winning movie musical La La Land is being adapted as a stage show for Broadway. There are currently no dates known for this production. The film starred Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling as an actor and jazz musician respectively, pursuing their dreams in Los Angeles. At present, no casting has been announced for the Broadway production.
The Broadway adaptation will feature music by Justin Hurwitz and lyrics by composing team Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, just as the film did. Fan favorite songs from the movie include “City of Stars,” “Another Day of Sun,” and “Audition (Fools Who Dream).”
Bartlett Sher (Camelot) is directing the stage adaptation based on a book written by playwrights Ayad Akhtar and Matthew Decker. Emma Stone and film director Damien Chazelle both won Academy Awards for their work in the film.
La La Land won several Academy Awards, including best director for Damien Chazelle and best actress for Stone. It grossed $151 million in North America and $472 million worldwide.
Marc Platt, who produced the film, will be involved with the Broadway adaptation. He shared the following:
“I’m thrilled to reunite with Lionsgate and the incredible team behind La La Land to adapt the movie for the Broadway stage, the next exciting chapter in its evolution. We’ve assembled a world-class team to create a musical that will delight La La Land’s millions of current fans and introduce the property to a whole new audience.”
