Matthew Broderick and David Cross will star in New York Theatre Workshop’s upcoming production of Tartuffe. The production will be the world premier of a new version of Molière’s classic comedy, and be directed by Sarah Benson, with performances beginning in late fall 2025.

Broderick will play the titular character, with Cross as Orgon. The cast is rounded out with Emily Davis as Mariane, Bianca del Rio as Mme Pernelle, Amber Gray as Elmire, Ryan Haddad as Damis, Francis Jue as Cleante, Lisa Kron as Dorine, and Ike Ufomadu as Valére.

Tartuffe tells the story of the title character conning a wealthy man, Orgon, into believing he is deeply religious. Orgon blindly trusts Tartuffe, though his family sees right through Tartuffe’s lies, and goes as far as to offer the fraud his daughter’s hand in marriage. This “mad-dash” production will give a new take on the classic, with wit, buffoonery, and outrageous design.

The production will feature scenic design by design collective dots, costume design by Enver Chakartash, lighting design by Stacey Derosier, and sound design by Peter Mills Weiss.

Tartuffe is part of New York Theatre Workshop’s 2025-26 season, which will also include the world premier of the musical Saturday Church, with music and lyrics by Sia and directed by Whitney White, as well as the world premier of My Joy is Heavy

Performance schedule and ticket information will be announced at a later date. For more information, visit here.
