MAYBE HAPPY ENDING’s Darren Criss Wins 2025 Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical
Definitely a happy ending! Darren Criss has won the 2025 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his role in Maybe Happy Ending. Criss beat out fellow nominees Andrew Durand for Dead Outlaw, Tom Francis for Sunset Blvd., Jonathan Groff for Just in Time, James Monroe Iglehart for A Wonderful World, and Jeremy Jordan for Floyd Collins.
Criss has been seen on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and American Buffalo. He is perhaps best known for starring as Blaine Anderson in the hit TV show Glee.
Maybe Happy Ending follows two not-quite-human robots as they forge an incredibly human bond. Set in a near-future Seoul, the show explores the concepts of love, friendship, companionship, and the human experience.
With music by Will Aronson and book and lyrics by Will Aronson and Hue Park, Maybe Happy Ending was directed by Michael Arden. It features orchestrations by Will Aronson and music direction from John Yun.
