Montego Glover to Lead GYPSY Sunday Matinees
“It’s gonna be her turn” every Sunday! Tony Award nominee Montego Glover will perform as Rose in Gypsy on Sunday matinees in July and August beginning on Sunday July 20. Glover filled in for star Audra McDonald from June 30 to July 6 while McDonald was on vacation.
Glover’s Broadway career spans credits such as Memphis — for which she was nominated for the 2010 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical — Les Misérables, The Color Purple, and the 2022/23 revival of Into the Woods. She has also been seen in Hamilton in Chicago, and on screen in The Blacklist, Inventing Anna, Black Box, Smash, and The Good Wife.
In Gypsy, Glover will take on the iconic role of Mama Rose, regularly played by McDonald in this production. It tells the story of Gypsy Rose Lee, the mother of all mothers, who is desperate to ensure her daughters have a successful career in vaudeville. Its lyrics were written by the legendary Stephen Sondheim, with a book written by Tony Award winner Arthur Laurents and music by Tony winner Jule Styne.
Glover and McDonald are joined by Tony Award winner Danny Burstein as Herbie — who was nominated for the 2025 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical for his performance — Joy Woods as Louise — who was nominated for the 2025 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical for her performance — Jordan Tyson as June, Kevin Csolak as Tulsa, and Lesli Margherita as Tessie Tura.
The 2025 revival was directed by George C. Wolfe, and features choreography by Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown. It was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical.
Gypsy is in performance at the Majestic Theatre on West 44th Street in New York City. For tickets and more information, visit here.
