Ray Fisher, April Matthis, More Join THE PIANO LESSON on Broadway
More casting has been announced for the Broadway revival of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson, starring Samuel L. Jackson, Danielle Brooks, and John David Washington. Joining the lead trio will be Trai Byers (Empire) as Avery, Ray Fisher (Justice League) as Lymon, April Matthis (Toni Stone) as Grace, and Michael Potts (The Book of Mormon) as Wining Boy.
Directed by LaTanya Richardson Jackson, The Piano Lesson will begin performances September 19 at the St. James Theatre. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning work is the fourth play in the American Century Cycle, set in Pittsburgh’s Hill District in 1936, and follows two siblings as they fight over a piano that’s been in their family for decades.
The design team for The Piano Lesson includes set designer Beowulf Boritt, costume designer Toni-Leslie James, lighting designer Japhy Weideman, sound designer Scott Lehrer, and wig designer Cookie Jordan with casting by Calleri, Jensen, Davis. Brian Anthony Moreland, Sonia Friedman, and Tom Kirdahy serve as lead producers.
