THE MUSIC MAN Celebrates 21 Broadway Debuts
Prior to its official opening night tomorrow, Tony Award Winner Jefferson Mays and members of the company of The Music Man celebrated the 21 Broadway Debuts in front of the historic Winter Garden Theatre yesterday. Along with a special performance by The Barbershop Quartet (Phillip Boykin, Eddie Korbich, Daniel Torres, Nicholas Ward), Mays kicked off the event with a special Mayoral Proclamation by Mayor George Shinn, his character in the show.
"These 21 young professionals, who I am lucky enough to call my friends and colleagues and are my exemplars and my inspiration, have infused this production with a spirit of joy and an energy that quite nearly blows the roof off this place. The theatre world has been through quite a bit of heartache these past two years in exile, and I'm not sure we've ever needed that joy, that spirit, and that energy so much as we do right now. Please join me in saluting these young River Citizians, future stars and newest members of our Broadway community,” said Mays.
The Music Man stars Hugh Jackman as Professor Harold HIll and Sutton Foster as Marian Paroo, in a production that is directed by four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks.
