These are their stories. *bom bom*

If you live in the greater New York City area, there’s a good chance you’ve seen some generation of Law & Order filming on your block. You know, when they bring in the semi-trucks and the huge spools of cable and you think you might spot Mariska Hargitay, but probably not? Not only is Law & Order a NYC-staple, it’s a theatre staple as well. Throughout the years, many notable Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regional stars have lent their talents to the decades-long crime franchise in various background, cameo, and supporting roles.

This year’s Tony nominees are no exception. For Theatrely’s Tonys Encyclopedia, we scoured IMDB to note all nominated performers who have appeared in the L&O universe and exactly which episodes. Combined, this year’s nominees have appeared in 50 unique episodes throughout Law & Order and its subsequent spinoff series (Special Victims Unit, Organized Crime, Criminal Intent, Trial by Jury, L.A., and True Crime).

Warren Leight, Executive Producer and Showrunner of Law & Order: SVU, said to Theatrely, “Broadway actors have always been our not-so-secret weapon at SVU. If they can do eight live shows a week, they can knock any guest roles we have out of the park.” He also noted that the season finale of SVU, airing May 19 at 9 PM on NBC, will feature Tony Award–winning and nominated guest stars Betty Buckley, Bill Irwin, Raúl Esparza, and Linda Emond.

The 75th annual Tony Awards will take place June 12 at Radio City Music Hall, led by host Ariana DeBose. Here, presented in nomination order, is an almost-definitely complete encyclopedic list of Law & Order appearances by 2022 Tony nominees.
