Alex Brightman and Sara Chase Will Star in SCHMIGADOON! On Broadway
“Welcome to our little town!” Tony Award nominee Alex Brightman and Sara Chase will reprise their roles as Josh and Melissa in Schmigadoon! on Broadway! Brightman and Chase originated the roles in The Kennedy Center production earlier this year.
Schmigadoon!, directed and choreographed by Christopher Gatelli, will begin previews at the Nederlander Theatre on April 4 with an opening night set for April 20. It will run through Sunday, Sept. 6. Full casting will be announced at a later date.
Brightman is best known for his Tony Award nominated performance as the titular role in Beetlejuice on Broadway. He was also nominated for a Tony Award for his breakout role as Dewey Finn in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical adaptation of School of Rock. He has also been seen on Broadway in Spamalot and The Shark is Broken. On screen, you can hear him in A24/Amazon’s hit series Hazbin Hotel.
Chase originated the role of Myrtle Wilson in the Broadway production of The Great Gatsby. She is best known as molewoman Cyndee Pokorny on all four seasons of Tina Fey and Robert Carlock’s hit Emmy nominated Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: The Interactive Special.
Schmigadoon! is based on the AppleTV+ series of the same name written by Cinco Paul. It follows married doctors Melissa and Josh who become trapped in a musical theatre town, where they are forced to learn the meaning of true love — or get stuck there forever.
The production features set design from Scott Pask, costume design from Linda Cho, lighting design from Donald Holder, sound design from Walter Trarbach, and hair, wig, & makeup design from Tom Watson.
“Schmigadoon! finding its new home on the Broadway stage is an absolute dream come true,” writer Paul said in a statement. “Broadway is the culmination of the show’s creative journey, ending up somewhere it was born to be, giving audiences a fresh and exciting new way to fall in love with these characters and songs. I can’t wait for the curtain to rise this spring!”
Schmigadoon begins performances at the Nederlander Theatre on West 41st Street in New York City on April 4 and runs through Sept. 6. For tickets and more information, visit here.
