CODA's Daniel Durant Joins CTG & Deaf West's AMERICAN IDIOT This Fall In LA
Wake me up when September ends because that means it’s almost time for American Idiot. Center Theatre Group in Los Angels is joining forces with Deaf West Theatre to bring a new production of Green Day’s iconic rock opera American Idiot to the stage. Directed by CTG Artistic Director Snehal Desai, the musical will feature choreography by Jennifer Weber and ASL choreography by Colin Analco. American Idiot serves as the first production that Desai will direct for CTG.
Daniel Durant returns to the stage after his star turn in the Academy-Award winning film CODA, which is also being adapted for the stage. The company also includes Milo Mannheim and Mason Alexander Park, the recent Emcee in the West End production of Cabaret.
The deaf and hearing company also includes Steven-Adam Agdeppa, L.J. Benet, Will Branner, Jerusha Cavazos, Lark Detweiler, Kaia T. Fitzgerald, Landen Gonzales, Tyler Hardwick, Otis Jones IV., Josué Martinez, Giovanni Maucere, James Olivas, Monika Peña, Mars Storm Rucker, Mia Sempertegui, Angel Theory, and Ali Fumiko Whitney.
“To kick-off my first season, I am excited to make my CTG directorial debut at the Taper with a new take on Green Day’s American Idiot. This explosive musical will take on a whole new meaning when we join forces with our friends at Deaf West Theatre, for the fourth time in our history, to tell this punk rock and wholly American musical tale in both English and American Sign Language. Pair that with the timing of what is sure to be a memorable election year, and we have the makings of what I believe truly great theatre should be all about: timely, resonant, inclusive, and, we hope, nothing short of electrifying,” said Desai.
