Enter the SOME LIKE IT HOT Dressing Room With Angie Schworer
Angie Schworer knows how to command the stage. Just look at her Broadway cred: Ulla in The Producers, Angie in The Prom, and then some. Now, she’s the scene-stealing Minnie in Some Like It Hot at the Shubert Theatre.
To celebrate the ensemble nature of the role, Michael Kushner snapped some photos of the star getting ready in her dressing room.
“When I photograph backstage of a Broadway show, I try to showcase someone who might not be the main focus in the press... someone whose presence is meaningful, or their process is unique,” says Kushner. “With Angie, I saw her as Ulla in The Producers in 2005, and I’ve been an admirer ever since. In so many ways, she represents Broadway to me—such a part of the ensemble and someone who gets up on stage and tells the story no matter what. How does a legend prepare? I hope at least one person learns something about preparation or the art of theatre and applies it to their own process.”
In addition to Schworer, Some Like It Hot stars J. Harrison Ghee as Jerry/Daphne, Christian Borle as Joe, Adrianna Hicks as Sugar, Kevin Del Aguila as Osgood, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Sweet Sue, Adam Heller as Mulligan, and Mark Lotito as Spats.
Based on the MGM Oscar-winning eponymous film, Some Like It Hot features a book by Matthew López and Amber Ruffin. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman wrote the score, with direction and choreography by Casey Nicholaw.
