Perhaps the world’s greatest love story will be making its way back to Broadway this fall with two absolute all stars. This morning it was announced that Emmy Award winner Kit Connor of Heartstopper fame and Golden Globe winner Rachel Zegler will lead a new production of William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, directed by Sam Gold, featuring music by Grammy Award winner Jack Antonoff and movement by Tony winner Sonya Tayeh.

The production will play a limited engagement on Broadway this fall at a theatre to be announced soon.

“With the presidential election coming up in November, I felt like making a show this fall that celebrates youth and hope, and unleashes the anger young people feel about the world they are inheriting,” said Sam Gold.

The classic love story has had over 30 productions on the main stem dating back to the 1700s but was last seen on Broadway in 2013 in a production starring Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad. & Juliet, which turns the classic tale on its side set to the music of Max Martin, is currently playing at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre with a national tour set to launch later this year. Jamie Lloyd who just won the Olivier Award this past weekend for his hit adaptation of Sunset Blvd will direct a production of Romeo & Juliet on the West End this spring starring Tom Holland and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers.

Romeo + Juliet is produced on Broadway by Seaview. Further creative team and casting will be announced at a later date.

Tickets will go on sale to the public in May 2024. For more information, visit www.romeoandjulietnyc.com
