Lois Smith has won Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play at the 74th Annual Tony Awards for her performance as Margaret in The Inheritance. This is her third Tony nomination and first win. She has previously been nominated for her performances in The Grapes of Wrath (1990) and Buried Child (1996).

Smith beat out fellow nominees Chalia La Tour (Slave Play), Annie McNamara (Slave Play), Jane Alexander (Grand Horizons), and Cora Vander Broek (Linda Vista).

Smith’s career has spanned the last eight decades, with her film debut in 1955 in East of Eden. Select other film credits include: Five Easy Pieces (1970), Resurrection (1980), Fatal Attraction (1987), Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), How to Make an American Quilt (1995), Dead Man Walking (1995), Twister (1996), Minority Report (2002), The Nice Guys (2016), and Lady Bird (2017). 

Previous Broadway credits include: Buried Child (Halie), The Grapes of Wrath (Ma), Stages (Silvia, Blonde Sister, Nurse, Lady Customer), The Iceman Cometh (Cora), and Bicycle Ride to Nevada (Lucha Moreno).
