The Wicked Witch of the East has been found in Las Vegas! On June 10, the Sphere fell on top of her, leaving her ruby slippers and 50-foot-long legs exposed, complementing a display on the venue’s Exosphere featuring the scene where Dorothy’s farmhouse falls out of a twister and onto the witch.

The installation took 500 hours to print, build, and assemble, 10 people to inflate and install the legs (which takes four hours per leg), and 1,000 yards of specialty fabric. The witch’s ruby slippers are 29 times larger than a woman’s size six shoe — we’d call that wicked.

The installation is drawing buzz for Sphere’s upcoming immersive Wizard of Oz experience, which will premiere on Aug. 28. Through custom scents, environmental effects, haptic seats, and the original film filling Sphere’s 160,000 square foot interior display, audiences will be transported right down the yellow brick road.

“If you’ve ever wondered if Oz actually exists – it does inside Sphere,” Jim Dolan, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sphere Entertainment said in a statement. “The Wizard of Oz at Sphere will put on full display what Sphere is capable of as an experiential medium. Audiences will feel like they are part of the adventure as they experience the film in a way they never have before.”

The film’s original songs have also been remastered to take on new clarity in Sphere Immersive Sounds speakers.
