Rock on! Stereophonic has won the 2023 Tony Award for Best Play! Playwright David Adjmi’s incredible new play beat out fellow nominees Prayer for the French Republic, Mother Play, Mary Jane, and Jaja's African Hair Braiding.

Stereophonic mines the agony and the ecstasy of creation as it zooms in on a music studio in 1976, where an up-and-coming rock band finds itself on the cusp of superstardom. Written by David Adjmi, directed by Daniel Aukin, and featuring original music by Arcade Fire’s Will Butler, this electrifying new play takes audiences inside the powder keg process of a band on the brink of blowing up.

Stereophonic received the most Tony Award nominations of any play this season, racking up a total of thirteen nominations. This also marks the most Tony nominations for any play in the history of the Tony Awards, a truly incredible feat.
