UNDER THE RADAR Will Host 2026 Festival In January, Featuring Work From Across the World
Under the Radar has announced its 2026 festival, which will take place from Jan. 7 to 25, 2026 in New York City.
The festival aims to highlight artists from around the world doing exciting, experimental work. 2026 is its third year of citywide collaboration; although, it has new leadership in Co-Creative Directors Meropi Peponides and Kaneza Schaal joining founder and artistic director Mark Russell.
Among the lineup is Bronx-based family vocal trio The HawtPlates and dancers Cherish Menzo and Camilo Mejía Cortés. Albanian-Greek director Mario Banushi will present Mami, a hymn to the mother-child bond. There will also be a series of conversations called Data Room led by New York-based theater, opera, and film artist Kaneza Schaal to examine what she does as an artist. Narcissister will channel a punk aesthetic in Voyage Into Infinity, a feminist homage to the 1987 film The Way Things Go.
The full lineup will be announced this fall.
“What excites me about putting this slate of work out there is that one person might be confused by any individual show and the person right next to them might be thrilled. A third person in the audience may have yet another, very different response,” Co-Creative Director Peponides said in a release. “I see the festival as holding space for all of those extremes and everything in between.”
In addition to many performances across venues in New York City, Under the Radar will host an industry symposium addressing the most pressing issues facing the creative sector, according to its press release. The symposium will allow for opportunities to experience major works in progress and will provide new community gathering spaces for audiences and artists.
