That’s some serious star power. As previously announced, Oscar winner Jessica Chastain will play Nora Helmer in a limited engagement production. Understudies for A Doll’s House will be Franklin Bongjio, Carey Rebecca Brown, Melisa Soledad Pereyra, and Jose Joaquin Perez.
Previews for the Jamie Lloyd Company production begin February 13 with an opening night set for March 9 at the Hudson Theatre. The Wendell Pierece-led Death of a Salesman revival is currently playing at the Broadway house through January 15.
Director Jamie Lloyd’s new production of Henrik Ibsen’s seminal drama features an updated script by Amy Herzog. A Doll’s House originally premiered in 1879, making waves for its feminist message. It follows Nora as she deals with a looming secret that threatens to disrupt her unsatisfying married life even more. As she tries to keep it together, she begins to realize that she’s the one with the power—despite society’s preference for the patriarchy.
The production team includes scenic designer Soutra Gilmour, who co-designs costumes with Enver Chakartash; lighting designer Jon Clark, sound designers Ben and Max Ringham, choreographer Jennifer Rias, production stage manager Frank Lombardi, and stage manager Brandon Allmon-Jackson, with music from Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto.
Casting is Jim Carnahan and Alexandre Bleau with 101 Productions serving as general management. The creative team also includes associate director Jonathan Glew, associate scenic designer Michael Carnahan & Wilson Chin, associate costume designer Ricky Lurie, associate lighting designer Domino Mannheim, and associate sound designer Chris Cronin.
