The 2023 New York City Center Encores! season is fast approaching as additional cast members join the cast of Dear World. As previously announced, Donna Murphy will star as Countess Aurelia.

Joining Murphy is Brooks Ashmanskas (President), Andréa Burns (Constance), Christopher Fitzgerald (Sewerman), Ann Harada (Gabrielle), Kody Jauron (Artiste), Phillip Johnson Richardson (Julian), and Samantha Williams (Nina). Complete casting will be announced at a later date.

Dear World is based on The Madwoman of Chaillot by Jean Giraudoux as adapted by Maurice Valency. In this fable, a motley band of outcasts must rally together to save their picturesque Chaillot neighborhood in Paris from a greedy cabal of oil-hungry bankers. Murphy takes on the musical’s giddy, garish heroine, originally performed by Angela Lansbury. Popular songs from the musical include “I Don’t Want to Know,” “Kiss Her Now,” and “Each Tomorrow Morning.”

The stage musical adaptation features music and lyrics by Jerry Herman with a book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. Josh Rhodes will direct and choreograph the upcoming production with music direction from Mary-Mitchell Campbell. The performance will also feature The Encores! Orchestra.

Additional credits include scenic design by Paul Tate dePoo III, costumes by Toni Leslie James, lighting by Amith Chandrashaker, and sound by Scott Lehrer. Casting is by The Telsey Office. Cynthia Cahill will serve as Production Stage Manager. Kimberlee Wertz is music coordinator with concert adaptation from Sandy Rustin and orchestrations by Philip J. Lang.

Dear World opens the 2023 Encores! Season with performances March 15-19. The season will continue with a special two-week run of Lionel Bart’s Oliver! May 3-14 and then The Light in the Piazza, starring Ruthie Ann Miles, June 21-25.

In addition to the Encores! Season, New York City Center will present the Flamenco Festival (March 23-26), the National Ballet of Canada (March 30–April 1), Dance Theatre of Harlem (April 19-23), and Ballet Hispánico (June 1-3).

Fans of New York City Center Encores! enjoyed an exciting run of productions in 2022, including the extended, and now Grammy Award-winning, production of Into the Woods and the upcoming Broadway transfer of Parade, originally staged as NYCC’s Annual Gala Presentation last November.
