Congratulations are in order! Into the Woods has won the 2023 Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album, handed out in a ceremony on February 5. The award will go to principal vocalists Sara Bareilles, Brian d’Arcy James, Patina Miller, and Phillipa Soo; and producers Rob Berman and Sean Patrick Flahaven. Composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim is not considered a winner because cast albums of Into the Woods have been nominated in this category for a Grammy before. The original Broadway cast recording won in 1989; the first revival was nominated but lost out to Hairspray in 2003.

Into the Woods beat out its fellow nominated cast recordings from the productions of Caroline, Or Change; MJ The Musical; Mr. Saturday Night; Six: Live on Opening Night; and A Strange Loop. On hand to accept the award were Brian d’Arcy James, Rob Berman, and producers.

The cast recording joins the ranks of recent winners like The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical, Jagged Little Pill, and Hadestown

The winner was announced during the GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony, hosted by Randy Rainbow.

Elsewhere in the Premiere Ceremony, several Broadway favorites took home early Grammy Awards, including Lin-Manuel Miranda for Encanto's “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” in Best Song Written for Visual Media. Encanto also won Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media. Fences star Viola Davis completed her EGOT status with a win in Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording for Finding Me

Tony Award Winner Myles Frost presented a number of early awards during the ceremony, including Best Dance/Electronic Recording (Beyoncé for “Break My Soul”); Best Remixed Recording winner (Lizzo for "About Damn Time (Purple Disco Machine Remix); and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical (Harry Styles for “Harry's House”). Shoshana Bean also made an early appearance in the ceremony’s opening number, an arrangement of Rare Earth’s “I Just Want to Celebrate.”
