A pair of Tony nominees are shuffling off…to Connecticut! Kate Baldwin and Max Von Essen will star in a new revival of 42nd Street at The Goodspeed in East Haddam this fall. Performances begin September 16 with an opening night set for October 5.

Julian Marsh will be played by von Essen opposite Baldwin as Dorothy Brock, with Blake Stadnik as Billy Lawlor, Carina-Kay Louchiey as Peggy Sawyer, David Jennings as Abner Dillon, Patrick Oliver Jones as Pat Denning, E. Clayton Cornelious as Bert Barry, Lisa Howard as Maggie Jones, Eloise Kropp as Annie Reilly, and Lamont Brown as Andy Lee.

42nd Street will be directed and choreographed by Tony nominee Randy Skinner, having previously worked on the 2001 revival of the top-tapping musical on Broadway. “I am very pleased to create a new version of the classic musical 42nd Street with the full cooperation and support of the estates,” said Skinner. “It will definitely be the musical that audiences have loved for 42 years but will have new elements and surprises. Before Mark Bramble’s untimely death in 2019, he made changes to the book that restored some ideas he and Michael Stewart had originally conceived for the 1980 production.”

No specific details on the changes were provided at press time. 42nd Street features music by Harry Warren, lyrics by Al Dubin, and a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble. It is based on the novel by Bradford Ropes, and the motion picture 42nd Street, owned by Turner Entertainment Co. and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

The Goodspeed production will also feature Willie Clyde Beaton II, Sarah Dearstyne, Berklea Going, Candice Hatakeyama, Danielle Jackman, Edward Juvier, Taylor Lane, Brian Shimasaki Liebson, Brady Miller, Christian Probst, and Christopher Shin in the ensemble. Kirsty Fuller and Derek Luscutoff will serve as swings.

Serving on creative team will be music supervisor Rob Berman, who is currently conducting Into the Woods at the St. James, music director Adam Souza, scenic designer Michael Carnahan, costume designer Kara Harmon, lighting designer Cory Pattak, projection designer Shawn Duan, sound designer and audio supervisor Jay Hilton, and hair, wig, and make-up designer J. Jared Janas. Bradley G. Spachman will be the production stage manager with casting by Peter Van Dam and Kevin Metzger-Timson of Tara Rubin Casting. 42nd Street is produced by special arrangement with Richard Winkler/Red Hanger Productions.
