Lea Michele, Ramin Karimloo, More Will Stay in FUNNY GIRL Until the End
The greatest star will remain on Broadway just a little bit longer. Lea Michele, Ramin Karimloo, Jared Grimes, and Tovah Feldshuh have extended their run in Funny Girl through September 3, when the musical will play its final performance at the August Wilson Theatre. The production will have played 599 performances and 30 previews when it closes.
Funny Girl stars Lea Michele as Fanny Brice, a real-life comedienne and performer who faced constant uphill battles as she became a bona fide star in the first half of the 20th century. Ramin Karimloo plays Nick Arnstein with Jared Grimes as Eddie Ryan and Tovah Feldshuh as Mrs. Rosie Brice.
Rounding out the current cast are Peter Francis James as Florenz Ziegfeld, Ephie Aardema as Emma/Mrs. Nadler, Debra Cardona as Mrs. Meeker, Toni DiBuono as Mrs. Strakosh, and Martin Moran as Tom Keeney. Julie Benko is the Fanny alternate, who performs the role every Thursday.
The ensemble also includes Miriam Ali, Amber Ardolino, Daniel Beeman, Colin Bradbury, Kurt Csolak, John Michael Fiumara, Leslie Donna Flesner, Candice Hatakeyama, Curtis Holland, Masumi Iwai, Aliah James, Jeremiah James, Danielle Kelsey, Stephen Mark Lukas, Alicia Lundgren, John Manzari, Liz McCartney, Connor McRory, Justin Prescott, Katie Mitchell, Mariah Reives, Barbara Tirrell, and Leslie Blake Walker.
The first-ever Broadway revival of Funny Girl originally opened April 24, 2022, starring Beanie Feldstein as Fanny and Jane Lynch as Mrs. Bryce; both performers left the show over the summer, with Michele and Feldshuh taking over their respective roles in September last year.
Fans worried about missing the Broadway production have no reason to fear. As previously announced, a North American tour will launch September 9 in Providence, Rhode Island, with planned stops in Atlanta, Detroit, and more to follow. Casting will be revealed later.
In addition, a Funny Girl New Broadway Cast Recording with Michele was released last year by Sony Masterworks Broadway, in partnership with Accidental Jacket Entertainment and Gemini Theatrical.
Funny Girl features music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Bob Merrill. The original book by Isobel Lennart, from an original story by Miss Lennart, is revised by Harvey Fierstein. Directed by Michael Mayer, the production features choreography by Ellenore Scott and tap choreography by Ayodele Casel.
