Maude Apatow Extends Run as Audrey in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS
Looks like some of the employees at Mushnik’s Flower Shop have extended their contracts! Euphoria star Maude Apatow will stay on as Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors through April 30 at the Westside Theatre Off-Broadway. She’ll continue to play opposite Tony winner Matt Doyle as Seymour and Bryce Pinkham as Dr. Orin Scrivello D.D.S. after joining the cast in February.
The current cast of Little Shop also features Aaron Arnell Harrington as The Voice of Audrey II, Brad Oscar as Mushnik, Tiffany Renee Thompson as Crystal, Khadija Sankoh as Chiffon, and D’kaylah Unique Whitley as Ronnette. Those latter three make up the Urchins, a Skid Row chorus of sorts that provides plenty of humor and musical highlights throughout the show. (Check out a cut song from Little Shop of Horrors, featuring Thompson, Sankoh, and Ari Groover, here).
Rounding out the ensemble are Camryn Hampton, Weston Chandler Long, Jeff Sears, Evan Alexander Smith, Chelsea Turbin, and Teddy Yudain.
Little Shop of Horrors features a book and lyrics by Howard Ashman, and music by Alan Menken. It follows Seymour, a down-on-his-luck florist with a crush on his co-worker (who is dating a sadistic dentist). When he befriends a mysterious—and blood-thirsty—plant, an epic battle unfolds that will determine the fate of the entire human race.
The Off-Broadway production has been playing at the Westside Theatre since opening in 2019. It reopened last fall following the pandemic. The musical has become a star vehicle, especially for the role of Seymour, with Gideon Glick, Conrad Ricamora, Jeremy Jordan, Skylar Astin, and Rob McClure all playing the lovable horticulturist after Jonathan Groff originated the role. Emmy winner Tammy Blanchard originated the role of Audrey for this production with Tony winner Lena Hall stepping into the role last year until Apatow joined the cast.
