Producers announced that Rashidra Scott will join the company of Sunset Blvd. as the standby for the role of Norma Desmond at the St. James Theatre starting Monday, January 20. Fresh off an unforgettable performance as Norma yesterday, Caroline Bowman who was the standby since opening will depart the production on Sunday, January 19 as she heads to originate the role of Karen in Smash on Broadway. 

Producers of BOOP! The Musical announced the full cast who will originate the new musical when it starts previews on March 11, 2025 before an official opening night on April 5 at the Broadhurst. The principal cast of BOOP!, who received critical acclaim in the Chicago pre-Broadway run last year, is headed by Jasmine Amy Rogers as Betty Boop and Tony Award-winner Faith Prince as Valentina, Ainsley Melham as Dwayne, Erich Bergen as Raymond, Stephen DeRosa as Grampy,Anastacia McCleskey as Carol, Angelica Hale as Trisha, Phillip Huber (Pudgy the Dog), and Aubie Merrylees as Oscar. 

It appears the current Atlantic Theater productions of Grief Camp and I’m Assuming You Know David Greenspan are postponed due to the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) calling for a strike against the Atlantic Theater Company. 

It seems The Jonathan Larson Project has found its cast. The new musical celebrates the dozens of unheard songs, unfinished and unproduced musicals, and pop songs found in files and boxes when Larson died suddenly at the age of 35 in 1996. The company is set to include Adam Chanler-Berat, Taylor Iman Jones, Lauren Marcus, Andy Mientus, and Jason Tam.

Today, further casting was announced for the upcoming Broadway production of Stranger Things: The First Shadow which brings performances at the Marquis Theatre on Friday, March 28, 2025 before an official opening night on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Joining the previously announced Louis McCartney as Henry Creel, the company will include Rosie Benton (Patriots) as Virginia Creel, Alex Breaux (“Stranger Things” Season 5) as Dr. Brenner, Nicky Eldridge (Broadway Debut) as Bob Newby, Andrew Hovelson (Lucky Guy) as Principal Newby, Alison Jaye (“Shameless”) as Joyce Maldonado, Emmy Award nominee T.R. Knight (“Grey’s Anatomy”) as Victor Creel, Emmy Award nominee Gabrielle Nevaeh (Nickelodeon’s “That Girl Lay Lay”) as Patty Newby and Burke Swanson (Back to the Future: The Musical) as James Hopper, Jr. 

The cast is shaping up for who will be joining Tony Award winner Jonathan Groff as Bobby Darin in Just In Time on Broadway this March. He will be joined by Joe Barbara, Tony Award winner Michele Pawk, Lance Roberts, Caesar Samayoa, Christine Cornish, Julia Grondin, Valeria Yamin, John Treacy Egan, Tari Kelly, Matt Magnusson, Khori Michelle Petinaud, and Larkin Reilly.

Theatrely31 alum Jack Serio will direct Danger and Opportunity, a new play by Ken Urban this March. The new production will premiere at the East Village Basement, located at 321 East 9th Street in Manhattan. 

Today it was announced that Emmy-nominated actor Betty Gilpin will take over the role of Mary Todd Lincoln beginning Tuesday, January 21, 2025 for a limited 8-week engagement through Sunday, March, 2025. Tickets are now officially on sale through Saturday, June 28, 2025.

The Broadway premiere of Back To The Future is closing up shop. The show will play its final performance at the Winter Garden Theatre on Sunday, January 5, 2025. At the time of closing, Back To The Future will have played 35 previews and 597 performances over its 18 month run. 

Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions announced that Louis McCartney will reprise his award-winning performance as Henry Creel when Stranger Things: The First Shadow comes to Broadway this spring. This will mark McCartney’s Broadway Debut. He will play his final performance in the West End production on Sunday, November 10, 2024. 

Today it was announced that pop music superstar Joey Fatone will return to Broadway for the first time in 20 years in the company of & Juliet as ‘Lance’ beginning January 21, 2025. A founding member of NSYNC, Fatone made his Broadway debut in Rent in 2002 and went on to star in Little Shop of Horrors in 2004. He will play a limited 9-week engagement in & Juliet through March 16, 2024. He takes over the role from Paulo Szot. 

Theatrely31 alum Kimberly Belflower will make her Broadway debut when her play John Proctor is the Villain premieres at the Booth Theatre directed by Danya Taymor. Sadie Sink, Broadway alum and star of Stranger Things will lead the cast of the new play which begins performances Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the Booth Theatre with an official opening night set for Monday, April 14. 

The world of Silicon Valley is headed straight to Washing D.C. in Matthew Libby’s new suspenseful drama Data. Directed by Margot Bordelon, the play will premiere October 31, 2024 before an official opening night on November 7, 2024. Data will play a limited engamgnet at Arena Stage’s Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle theatre through December 15, 2024. The star-studded cast includes Karan Brar in his theatrical debut as Maneesh, Stephen Cefalu, Jr. as Jonah, Isabel Van Natta as Riley, and Rob Yang as Wang Tao (Alex).

More Succession stars are headed to the stage! Following a sold out, critically acclaimed run in the West End, Sarah Snook will make her Broadway debut playing 26 characters in the new production of The Picture of Dorian Gray. The stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s only novel is adapted and directed by Kip Williams, the Artistic Director of Sydney Theatre Company, where the production originated. The Picture of Dorian Gray will open at a Shubert theatre in March for a strictly limited engagement.

The circus is coming to an end. The Broadway premiere of Water for Elephants will be packing up its tent this December. The musical will play its final performance at the Imperial Theatre on Sunday, December 8, 2024. At time of closing, Water for Elephants will have played 25 previews and 301 regular performances. 

Today it was announced that Riverdance 30 - The New Generation is headed back to Radio City Music Hall as part of the new anniversary production of the international Irish dance phenomenon for five performances only from Friday, March 28 through Sunday, March 30, 2025. This will be the first time the dance troupe is back at the famed Music Hall since 2020. 

Jason Robert Brown and Taylor Mac’s Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil will head to Broadway in 2025. The new musical is based off John Berendt’s 1994 non-fiction book of the same name. It had a critically acclaimed run at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago earlier this summer.

Dancer and TikTok superstar Charli D’Amelio will make her Broadway debut this fall, joining the Broadway company of & Juliet, producers announced today. D’Amelio, who spent more than a decade as a competitive dancer before launching her social media career and becoming the world’s most followed TikToker, begins performances as part of the ensemble in the dance-heavy role of ‘Charmian’ beginning October 29, 2024 at the Sondheim Theatre (124 West 43rd Street) for a limited three-month engagement through January 19, 2025. 

Romeo + Juliet starring Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler, which beings previews this Thursday, September 26, at Circle in the Square Theatre, is teaming up with Voters of Tomorrow, a Gen-Z led organization working to turn out young voters. Together, they are launching The Youth Are Voting, an initiative to boost voter registration and engagement ahead of the 2024 elections. The name plays off the show’s tagline, “the youth are f**ked.”

It was announced that Theatrely31 alum Joy Woods will join Audra McDonald and Danny Burstein in the upcoming revival of Gypsy as Louise. Joining them will be Jordan Tyson as June, Lesli Margherita as Tessie Tura, Lili Thomas as Miss Mazeppa, and Mylinda Hull as Miss Electra. 

Back where they belong. The 78th Annual Tony Awards are officially set to return to Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 8, 2025. Broadcasting live to both coasts at 8:00 - 11:00PM EST/5:00 - 8:00PM PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+. 

Tony Award Winner Danny Burstein will star as Herbie opposite six-time Tony Award Winner Audra McDonald in the upcoming Broadway revival of Gypsy.

Shailene Woodley, Zachary Quinto, Barbie Ferreria and more are set to star in Leslye Headland's Cult of Love on Broadway directed by Trip Cullman.

Leana Rae Concepcion, last seen on Broadway in the Tony-winning revival of Merrily We Roll Along, will join the company of William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin’s 25th Annual Putnum County Spelling Bee. She joins the company as Marcy Park for the run at the Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater October 11-20, 2024.
