Joaquina Kalukango is having the time of her life as we head into 2023! The Into the Woods player, currently championing the rutabaga and rampion as The Witch, shares all in a very special New Year’s edition of Stage Door Speed Round.

The star has had quite the year, In June, she won the Tony Award for her performance in Paradise Square. Find out where Kalukango keeps the trophy, her mottos and resolutions, and more fun trivia like her favorite Broadway diva below.

The Stephen Sondheim musical is currently playing at the St. James Theatre through January 8 before heading out on tour across America. The tour begins previews in February 18, 2023, at Shea’s Performing Arts Center in Buffalo, New York, before opening February 23 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., with a sit-down engagement through March 19.

Currently starring in the musical opposite Kalukango is Diane Phelan as Cinderella, Brian d’Arcy James as the Baker (until January 1, when Sebastian Arcelus takes over for the final week), Stephanie J. Block as the Baker’s Wife, Gavin Creel as the Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince, Joshua Henry as Rapunzel’s Prince, Katy Geraghty as Little Red Ridinghood, Jim Stanek as the Steward, and David Patrick Kelly as The Narrator.

Rounding out the cast Ann Harada as Jack’s Mother, Cole Thompson as Jack, and Alysia Velez as Rapunzel, Nancy Opel as Cinderella’s Stepmother, Ta’Nika Gibson as Lucinda, Brooke Ishibashi as Florinda, and Kennedy Kanagawa as Milky White. Delphi Borich, Felicia Curry, Jason Forbach, Alex Joseph Grayson, Cameron Johnson, Paul Kreppel, Mary Kate Moore, and Lucia Spina are understudies.

Directed by Lear deBessonet, with music supervision by Rob Berman, and choreographed by Lorin Latarro, the production opened in July following a sold-out run as part of the New York City Center Encores! Season. An Original Broadway Cast Recording was released earlier this year and is now available to stream on all platforms.
