They’re the good kid(s)! To celebrate the bright and charming ensemble of Kimberly Akimbo, Theatrely invited Olivia Elease Hardy, Fernell Hogan, Michael Iskander, and Nina White to the Brooklyn Diner for some good old-fashioned milkshakes and fries.

In the show, the quartet makes up the “show choir,” Kimberly’s friends who are (very) nerdy and living their best teenage lives in 1999. They have crushes (gay and straight), get into hijinks, and hang out at Skater Planet.

Kimberly Akimbo, which opened November 10 at the Booth Theatre, follows a bright and funny Jersey teen, who just happens to look like a 72-year-old lady. Forced to maneuver family secrets, borderline personalities, and possible felony charges, Kim is determined to find happiness in a world where not even time is on her side.

The musical stars Victoria Clark in the title role with Bonnie Milligan as Aunt Debra and Justin Cooley as high schooler/Kimberly’s friend Seth. Also in the cast are Tony nominee Steven Boyer and Alli Mauzey as Kimberly’s parents, Buddy and Patty.

An Original Broadway Cast Recording was released February 14. Kimberly Akimbo features a book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, music by Jeanine Tesori, and is based on the play of the same name by Lindsay-Abaire. Jessica Stone directs the musical with choreography by Danny Mefford.

Earlier this year, Kimberly Akimbo was nominated for the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Broadway Production. The Off-Broadway world premiere production in 2021 scored a slew of awards, including the Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Awards for Best Musical.
