The Tony Award-winning hit musical Kinky Boots will return to the New York stage this summer for a limited engagement Off-Broadway at Stage 42. With music by Cyndi Lauper, a book by Harvey Fierstein, and direction and choreography by Jerry Mitchell, performances are set to begin on July 26, 2022 with an official opening night on August 25, 2022.

‍SThe documentary following the one-night-only concert and reunion of the original Broadway cast of Spring Awakening will premiere next month. Seen on camera are Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele, John Gallagher Jr., Lauren Pritchard, Lilli Cooper, and many more.

The 64th annual Grammy Awards were held April 3, with a number of theatrical productions and stars nominated in several categories. Among the performances were a tribute to Stephen Sondheim, sung by Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom, Jr., Ben Platt, and Rachel Zegler.

The musical, charting the career of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, is currently playing at New World Stages Off-Broadway. The brew was made in partnership with New Jersey Beer Company.

KPOP is headed to Broadway starring Luna. The musical features a score by Helen Park and Max Vernon, a book by Jason Kim, and direction by Teddy Bergman.

The popular Off-Broadway musical, a parody of James Cameron’s Oscar-winning film Titanic featuring the songs of Celine Dion, will play at the Asylum Theatre. Previews begin June 14. 

John David Washington also stars in the August Wilson play revival of The Piano Lesson, directed by LaTanya Richardson Jackson. Performances will begin September 19 at the St. James Theatre. 

The adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s best-selling novel The Kite Runner begins performances July 6 at the Hayes Theater on Broadway.

Broadway star Ariana DeBose can now add “Oscar winner” to her resume. The performer won Best Supporting Actress for her searing take as Anita in West Side Story at 94th annual Academy Awards.

Girl From The North Country, featuring a score comprised of Bob Dylan songs, will play a limited engagement at the Belasco Theatre this spring. Todd Almond, Jeannette Bayardelle,Caitlin Houlahan, Austin Scott, Kimber Elayne Sprawl, Mare Winningham and more are set to return.

The Stephen Sondheim musical Into The Woods begins May 4 at New York City Center. The cast already features Sara Bareilles, Heather Headley, and Christian Borle. 

Previews for the new Broadway comedy will still begin April 14 at the Shubert Theatre. The play stars Lilli Cooper, Rachel Dratch, Lea DeLaria, Julianne Hough, and Suzy Nakamura, Julie White, and Vanessa Williams.

The New York premiere begins previews May 12 ahead of a May 26 opening. James Ijames’ play is directed by Saheem Ali.

The project will be a partnership between Deaf West Theatre, Vendôme Pictures, and Pathé Films. CODA, about a family with both deaf and hearing members, is available to stream on AppleTV+ now will be adapted and developed into a Stage Musical.

John Cardoza will star as Daniel opposite Jovanni Sy as Mister Miyagi in The Karate Kid – The Musical. The production begins performances May 25 at STAGES St. Louis in Missouri.

Jewelle Blackman will step into the role of Persephone in Hadestown on Broadway this spring. Soara-Joye Ross will join the cast of the Tony-winning musical as one of the Fates.

Broadway favorite Norm Lewis will star in a North American tour of the 2020 Tony-winning revival of A Soldier’s Play. Kenny Leon will again direct the Roundabout production hitting the road.

As it tends to do in times of crisis, the theatre industry has banded together to support Ukraine and its citizens. Among those are a Broadway production and several performing arts institutions.For context, the country was invaded by Russia on February 24, which has since devolved into a major crisis, with nearly 3 million Ukrainians fleeing the destruction to neighboring European countries. Many have remained behind to fight against Putin’s troops. In the weeks since the conflict began, Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly called on the world to send aid to support the refugees, citizens trapped in their homeland, and those serving on the front lines. 

A new docuseries titled Here’s To The Ladies Who highlights the women working on the business side of Broadway and beyond, exploring how they adapted during the COVID-19 theatre shutdown and then helped relaunch the industry. 

The 75th annual Tony Awards will be held in Radio City Music Hall, taking place June 12. Once again, the 4-hour ceremony will be available via streaming and broadcast TV.

Keri René Fuller will play Jane Seymour in Six beginning March 14, stepping in for Abby Mueller while the star is out on medical leave. It’s anticipated that Mueller will return to the Broadway production at a later date.

The London revival of Cabaret leads the 2022 Olivier Award nominations with 11 total, the most for any show, including nods for stars Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley. The best of London theatre will be celebrated April 10 at Royal Albert Hall.

The Griswold’s Broadway Vacation The Musical will take a cross-country road trip on its way to a planned Main Stem bow this year. Performances will run at 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle followed by a stint at Theatre Under the Stars in Houston.

Newsies will play at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre in London, with performances starting November 28. The staging will be presented in-the-round with Matt Cole directing and choreographing.

Pamela Anderson will make her Broadway debut this spring Chicago The Musical at the Ambassador Theatre.

Daniel Radcliffe will play Charley in a new Off-Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along. The staging, directed by Maria Friedman, will premiere later this year at New York Theatre Workshop.
