Tony nominee and Broadway heartthrob Will Swenson is set to play singer-songwriter Neil Diamond in the upcoming bio-musical A Beautiful Noise. The world premiere is set to begin previews June 21 at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston.

This summer’s shaping up to be a honky-tonking good time. May We All: A New Country Musical will feature songs by a lengthy roster of superstars, including Kacey Musgraves, Dolly Parton, Miranda Lambert, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, and Florida Georgia Line. Also lending their songs to the jukebox musical are Brooks & Dunn, Chris Stapleton, Jessica Andrews, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Little Big Town, LOCASH, Old Dominion, Runaway June, Sara Evans, Tim McGraw, and Zac Brown Band. FGL’s Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard will also debut two original songs in the score. 

A slew of Broadway stars are set to perform songs created by female and nonbinary musicians at Maestra Music’s Amplify 2022 concert later this month. The lineup features Jessica Vosk, Mikaela Bennett, Bonnie Milligan, Michael Maliakel, Darius de Haas, Grace McLean, Elizabeth Stanley, Heidi Blickenstaff, Bryonha Marie Parham, Lourds Lane, and Kennedy Caughell. The performers will sing tunes created by Micki Grant, Alanis Morissette, Jeanine Tesori, Shaina Taub, and more. Directed and hosted by Kate Baldwin, the concert will also feature stories and conversations about theatre and the performing arts industry. Music director Julianne B. Merrill and associate music director Emily Erickson will lead a band made up entirely of Maestra members.

Tony winner Bebe Neuwirth, Broadway alums Ashley Blanchet and Caissie Levy, and more have been cast in the upcoming world premiere of The Bedwetter. The musical begins previews April 30 at Atlantic Theater Company’s Linda Gross Theater ahead of a May 23 opening night. Rounding out the star-studded cast in the Off-Broadway production are Rick Crom, Charlotte Elizabeth Curtis, Zoe Glick, Darren Goldstein, Charlotte MacLeod, Ellyn Marie Marsh, Margot Weintraub, and Emily Zimmerman. The Bedwetter features a book by Joshua Harmon and Sarah Silverman, lyrics by Silvermand and the late Adam Schlesinger, music by Schlesinger, choreography by Byron Easley, and direction by Anne Kauffman. David Yazbek serves as a creative consultant.

Beetlejuice is going beyond haunted houses and graveyards to include its many fans in the show. The Broadway musical is now accepting fan art to include on a mural outside the Marquis Theatre in the alley between 46th and 47th Streets in NYC. The move expands upon Beetlejuice’s popularity with the TikTok generation thanks to its catchy tunes and kooky characters. 

The Shubert Organization has renamed the Cort Theatre on Broadway to the James Earl Jones Theatre, recognizing the EGOT winner for his contributions to the performing arts industry. The theatre is currently undergoing renovations and is set to reopen this summer, with a dedication ceremony to follow. 

Selina Fillinger’s POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive is headed to Broadway this spring when it plays the Shubert Theatre. The play features Julie White, Tony nominees Vanessa Williams and Lilli Cooper, and Saturday Night Live alum Rachel Dratch, along with Lea DeLaria, Julianne Hough, and Suzy Nakamura. The cast also includes Anita Abdinezhad, Gisela Chípe, Jennifer Fouché, and Lisa Helmi Johanson as standbys.

Joy Woods will make her Broadway debut as Catherine Parr in Six, starting March 14. Anna Uzele, who originated the role in the U.S. during out-of-town tryouts and on the Main Stem, will play her final performance March 13. No reason was given for Uzele’s departure.

The upcoming Broadway revival of Ntozake Shange’s for colored girls who have considered suicide/ when the rainbow is enuf, directed and choreographed by Camille A. Brown has found its cast. The ensemble includes Amara Granderson as Lady in Orange, Tendayi Kuumba as Lady in Brown, Kenita R. Miller as Lady in Red, Okwui Okpokwasili as Lady in Green, Stacey Sargeant as Lady in Blue, Alexandria Wailes as Lady in Purple, and D. Woods as Lady in Yellow. 

The hit musical Kimberly Akimbo by Jeanine Tesori and David Lindsay-Abaire is headed to Broadway this Fall beginning in October. Directed by Jessica Stone and choreographed by Danny Mefford, the company includes Victoria Clarke, Justin Cooley, Steven Boyer, Alli Mauzey, Bonnie Milligan, Olivia Elease Hardy, Fernell Hogan, Michael Iskander, and Nina White.

Sing Street, the new musical based on the 2016 indie film of the same title by John Carney features a book by Tony winner Enda Walsh and music & lyrics by Gary Clark and Carney is headed to the Huntington Theatre Company this August. Rebecca Taichman will direct with Sonya Tayeh set to choreograph. An impressive creative time includes scenic & costume design by Bob Crowley, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Peter Hylenski, video design by Luke Halls and Brad Peterson, music supervision by Martin Lowe and Peter Gordeno, orchestrations by Gary Clark and Martin Lowe.

When Beetlejuice returns to Broadway this spring, the cast will include Tony Award nominee Kerry Butler, David Josefsberg, Obie Award Winner Adam Dannheisser, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer, Kelvin Moon Loh, Danny Rutigliano, and Dana Steingold will join the previously announced Alex Brightman when the show returns later this spring. New to the company are Elizabeth Teeter as Lydia Deetz, Michelle Aravena as Miss Argentina and Zonya Love as Maxine Dean/Juno. Rounding out the cast is Kate Bailey, Will Blum, Ryan Breslin, Natalie Charle Ellis, Brooke Engen, Eric Anthony Johnson, Andrew Kober, Elliott Mattox, Mateo Melendez, Ramone Owens, Commodore C. Primous III, Nevada Riley, and Graham Stevens. 

Prior to its official opening night tomorrow, Tony Award Winner Jefferson Mays and members of the company of The Music Man celebrated the 21 Broadway Debuts in front of the historic Winter Garden Theatre yesterday. Along with a special performance by The Barbershop Quartet (Phillip Boykin, Eddie Korbich, Daniel Torres, Nicholas Ward), Mays kicked off the event with a special Mayoral Proclamation by Mayor George Shinn, his character in the show.

Neil Simon’s classic comedy Plaza Suite is headed back to the Great White Way for its first-ever revival when previews begin February 25, 2022 at the Hudson Theatre. Starring Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, the revival will be directed by John Benjamin Hickey. An official opening night is set for March 28, 2022. The cast will include Danny Bolero as The Waiter, Molly Ranson as Jean McCormick/Mimsey Hubley, and Eric Wiegand as The Bellhop/Borden Eisler. The cast is completed by Tony Michael McGrath and Erin Dilly, who will standby for Broderick and Parker, respectively; in addition to understudies Laurie Veldheer and Cesar J. Rosado.

The Public Theater announces its 60th Season of Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park in New York City. The performances this summer will include Richard III directed by Robert O'Hara and featuring Danai Gurira. Shaina Taub and Laurie Woolery's As You Like It will also return as part of Public Works return this summer.

Right at the start of the pandemic in March of 2020, there were reports that Martin McDonagh’s comedy Hangmen would not reopen on Broadway following just 13 previews. Today, producers of the acclaimed play that has played in London and Off Broadway at the Atlantic Theater Company will make its way back to the Great White Way’s Golden Theatre beginning April 8, 2022 with an official opening set for April 21, 2022. 

Bated Breath Theatre Company have announced their latest immersive production and are about to dive head first into the life of artist Andy Warhol. The new theatrical walking tour Chasting Andy Warhol begins previews March 25, 2022 with an opening night set for April 7, 2022. 

The New York premiere of David Alford’s Ghostlight will play a limited run from February 17-19 2022 at the Producers Club in Midtown Manhattan. 

It’s a miracle! The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene will present Harmony, a new musical from Barry Manilow and his longtime collaborator Bruce Sussman this March. Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Warren Carlyle, Harmoney will star Sierra Boggess and Chip Zien. Previews begins March 23, 2022 with an opening night set for April 13, 2022. 

A new musical stage adaptation of Black Orpheus is in the works, featuring a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Nilo Cruz, music by Grammy winner Sergio Mendes and direction and choreography by Tony Winner Sergio Trujullo. Currently, a developmental workshop and out-of-town regional theatre run are planned for this year before a bow on Broadway in 2023. Originally based on the play Orfeu de Conceição by the great Moraes, Black Orpheus resets the classic Greek love story of Eurydice and Orfeu against the backdrop of a Rio de Janeiro favela during Carnival. Equal parts celebratory, erotic, haunting and tragic, Black Orpheus became an instant classic of popular culture, winning the Cannes Palme d'Or and the 1959 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and introduced the world to Bossa Nova.

Billy Bustamante will direct and choreography Notes From Now, a brand-new musical anthology at 59E59 Theaters this March. Bringing together songwriters from Broadway and Beyond, this limited engagement is will run from March 2, 2022 through March 20, 2022. Notes From Now weaves together words and music to create a gallery of playful, provocative, and profound observations on the human journey. The line-up features newly-commissioned original songs created by 21 of today’s brightest musical theater writers: Jay Adana; Troy Anthony; Masi Asare; Jeff Blumenkrantz; Georgie Castilla and Jaime Lozano; Gretchen Cryer; Tia DeShazor and Derrick Byars; Alexandra Elle and Stephen Schwartz; Adam Gwon; Douglas Lyons and Ethan Pakchar; Peter Mills; Ryan Scott Oliver; Michelle J. Rodriguez; Angela Sclafani; Paulo K Tiról; and Amanda Yesnowitz and Deborah Abramson. 

The international best-selling novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is headed to the Great White Way this summer in a new theatrical adaptation by Matthew Spangler. The new play will begin performances on July 6, 2022 at Broadway's Hayes Theater. An opening night is currently set for July 21, 2022 and it will run through October 30. Giles Croft is set to direct.

Michael R. Jackson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical A Strange Loop will open on Broadway next spring after acclaimed productions at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company and Playwrights Horizons. Directed by Stephen Brackett, the new musical is choreographed by Raja Feather Helly. This blisteringly funny new work exposes the heart and soul of a young artist grappling with desires, identity, and instincts he both loves and loathes. Hell-bent on breaking free of his own self-perception, Usher wrestles with the thoughts in his head, brought to life on stage by a hilarious, straight-shooting ensemble. Bold and heartfelt in its truth-telling, A Strange Loop is the big, Black, and queer-ass Great American Musical for all.

It seems Broadway will have to wait a little bit longer for Paradise Square. The new musical which just finished its out-of-town tryout in Chicago will delay performances as a precaution due to the spike in COVID cases from the Omicron variant. Paradise Square will now being previews on March 15, 2022 with an opening night planed for April 3, 2022 at the Barrymore Theatre. 

Last night, producer Kevin McCollum announced that his new musical comedy Mrs. Doubtfire will be taking a hiatus from performances at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre for nine weeks from January 10 - March 14, 2022 citing concern for potential long-term employment. The show is scheduled to resume on March 15, 2022 with tickets on sale through November. This unprecedented decision is the first of what is likely going to be a very unpredictable few months as the theatre industry battles with this Omicron surge.

Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations will play its final Broadway performance on Sunday, January 16, 2022. With a book by Dominique Morisseau, the production was directed by Des McAnuff and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo. At time of closing, Ain’t Too Proud will have played 488 performances and 21 previews. 

Earlier tonight, it was announced that Keenan Scott II’s Thoughts of a Colored Man will not reopen following their recent suspension of performances due to the Covid resurgence. The show played its final performance on December 22. It was originally scheduled to play until March 13, 2022. Directed by Steven H. Broadnax III, the ensemble cast featured Dyllón Burnside, Bryan Terrell Clark, Da’Vinchi, Luke James, Forrest McClendon, Tristan Mack Wilds and Esau Pritchett.
