The honors celebrate the best of theatre in Boston, with John Douglas Thompson named the recipient of the Elliot Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence. Winners will be revealed May 23 in a virtual ceremony.

The awards, celebrating the best of Broadway and Off-Broadway, will be announced May 20 at an in-person ceremony in NYC. Categories will honor overall productions, direction, and performance. 

A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, has announced additional casting ahead of their Pre-Broadway run at Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston.The musical will feature Broadway favorites Will Swenson, Mark Jacoby, Robyn Hurder, and Linda Powell.Swenson will star as the young Neil Diamond while Jacoby will play Diamond at present. The story will follow Diamond as he begins his music career and as he faces challenges throughout the years. Hurder will play Marcia, who married Diamond, and Powell will play Diamond’s therapist.

Dates and a theatre have also been announced for the musical, which will arrive on Broadway at the end of 2022. The star-studded creative team includes Matthew López, Amber Ruffin, Marc Shaiman, Scott Wittman, and Casey Nicholaw.

The world premiere of Matthew Lombardo’s backstage comedy will be directed by Noah Himmelstein at The Bushnell in Hartford.

The musical will live stream April 14 from a NYC theatre, starring Roman Banks, Sri Ramesh, James Henry, Krystina Alabado, JJ Niemann, and more. Andy Cohen is set to host.

The world premiere musical features songs by some of the biggest and brightest country artists, like Kacey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert, and Dolly Parton.

The Tony and Emmy winner will step in as The Baker with Borle departing due to availability. The two-week run begins May 4 at New York City Center. 

Rob Ashford is set to direct the work, with plans for development in London. The show will be developed in London with hopes to premiere in the West End and on Broadway. 

The upcoming 2022-2023 season will also feature On Your Feet!, The Sound of Music, Murder on the Orient Express, and Rent.

The stage adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s classic book The Little Prince is currently playing at the Broadway Theatre. The production combines dance, aerial acrobatics, and projections to bring the adventure story to life.

Skylar Astin will succeed Conrad Ricamora as Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors at the Westside Theatre. 

Back To The Future, Life of Pi, the Donmar Warehouse revival of Constellations, and more also took home wins. The ceremony celebrated the best of London Theatre in the 2021 season.

Patrick Marber will direct the transfer of Leopoldstadt from London. The Tom Stoppard work won the Olivier Award for Best New Play in 2020. 

Klena will step in as Christian May 10 with Loren as Satine, Declan Bennett as The Duke, and Caleb Marshall-Villarreal as Santiago. The Tony-winning Broadway musical is currently playing at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

The Louanna O. Carlin and John MacDonald reading series returns with a public event April 18 at The Mainstage Theater. Adrienne D. Williams directs. 

Both works are nominated for Outstanding Musical, with Victoria Clark, Justin Cooley, Steven Boyer, and Bonnie Milligan all scoring nods for their performance in Kimberly Akimbo. The winners will be revealed May 1 at an in-person ceremony. 

The Tony Award-winning hit musical Kinky Boots will return to the New York stage this summer for a limited engagement Off-Broadway at Stage 42. With music by Cyndi Lauper, a book by Harvey Fierstein, and direction and choreography by Jerry Mitchell, performances are set to begin on July 26, 2022 with an official opening night on August 25, 2022.

‍SThe documentary following the one-night-only concert and reunion of the original Broadway cast of Spring Awakening will premiere next month. Seen on camera are Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele, John Gallagher Jr., Lauren Pritchard, Lilli Cooper, and many more.

The 64th annual Grammy Awards were held April 3, with a number of theatrical productions and stars nominated in several categories. Among the performances were a tribute to Stephen Sondheim, sung by Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom, Jr., Ben Platt, and Rachel Zegler.

The musical, charting the career of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, is currently playing at New World Stages Off-Broadway. The brew was made in partnership with New Jersey Beer Company.

KPOP is headed to Broadway starring Luna. The musical features a score by Helen Park and Max Vernon, a book by Jason Kim, and direction by Teddy Bergman.

The popular Off-Broadway musical, a parody of James Cameron’s Oscar-winning film Titanic featuring the songs of Celine Dion, will play at the Asylum Theatre. Previews begin June 14. 

John David Washington also stars in the August Wilson play revival of The Piano Lesson, directed by LaTanya Richardson Jackson. Performances will begin September 19 at the St. James Theatre. 

The adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s best-selling novel The Kite Runner begins performances July 6 at the Hayes Theater on Broadway.
